About this course

Loaches are some of the most entertaining bottom-dwellers you can keep, once you know what's normal for them. This course starts with kuhli loaches, the banded burrowers that hide by day and come out at night, and why they need a group of six or more. Lesson 2 covers clown loaches, sold at an inch but growing to 8 to 12 inches over many years and needing about 150 gallons. Lesson 3 offers smaller options, the yoyo and zebra loaches, kept in groups of five or more. Lesson 4 explains why the hillstream loach needs strong current, high oxygen and cool water. Then come the behavior lessons: why loaches pack into caves together, and how to tell a loach sleeping on its side from one that's sick. Lesson 7 covers how loaches crunch pest snails and why they still need sinking tablets and frozen foods. Lesson 8 shows how to seal the gaps kuhlis squeeze through, Lesson 9 explains why loaches need extra care with copper and other medicines, and Lesson 10 covers the fine sand that burrowers need.
