Skunk Pups
Warning Signs and Orphan Indicators
Blind pups wandering in daylight, a foot-stomp before the spray, and a recipe that actually works on your dog. 10 modules on spotting a true orphan, when baby skunks can spray (and the warning signs), blanket-and-darkness capture, high-fat low-lactose formula, weaning onto insects and eggs, eye infections and roundworms, hypoglycemia and seizures, the peroxide-and-baking-soda de-skunk wash, rabies-vector cross-contamination, and confiscation laws.
About this course
Skunks are nocturnal, so a tiny pup wandering blind across a lawn at noon is one of the few wildlife babies that usually is an orphan — and the one most people are afraid to pick up. This course covers both halves. You'll learn to confirm abandonment with a few hours of distant watching, when a baby skunk can actually spray (not before about four weeks) and the foot-stomp and tail-flick that come first, how to scoop pups calmly in a blanket into a dark container, what licensed carers feed (high-fat, low-lactose canine replacer — never cow's milk), how pups are weaned onto insects, eggs and vegetables, the eye infections and roundworms neonates arrive with, the hypoglycemia crash and why you never feed a cold animal, and — for the finder and the dog — the peroxide, baking soda and dish soap wash that neutralises thiols when tomato juice won't. It finishes with the rabies-vector rules and the law that sends pups to licensed rehabbers only.
What you'll learn
- Orphan indicators: daylight wandering, huddled vocalizing litters, and the 4–6 hour distant watch
- When spray develops (about 4 weeks) and the pre-spray warnings: stomping, tail flick, arch, teeth click
- Calm blanket capture, soothing tones, dark escape-proof containers
- High-fat, low-lactose canine milk replacer, feeding posture, and weaning onto insects, eggs and vegetables
- Neonatal eye infections, roundworm deworming by professionals, hypoglycemia and seizure triage
- The peroxide–baking soda–dish soap wash, rabies vector separation, and confiscation and euthanasia laws
Who this is for
Homeowners with a litter under the deck, dog owners who've been sprayed and want the wash that works, gardeners who found blind pups in daylight, and rehab volunteers who want the skunk-specific handling rules before intake.
