Conure Care Guide
Stopping Screams, Bites, and Hormones
Sun conures scream and green-cheeks nip, and both are fixable once you stop rewarding them. 10 lessons on the loud Aratinga and quieter Pyrrhura conures, the sun conure scream and the zero-reaction rule, the green-cheek nip and redirection, why fuzzy sleep tents cause hormones and crop blockages, converting a seed addict with the 10 percent method, short target and trick sessions, bathing without using the water bowl, bypassing cage territoriality, back-sleeping and when it is an emergency, and conure bleeding syndrome in young birds.
About this course
Conures come in two volumes, and Lesson 1 helps you match the bird to your home: the loud, dazzling Aratinga group like suns and jendays, and the quieter Pyrrhura group like green-cheeks. Lesson 2 tackles the sun conure scream with a zero-reaction rule and a reward the instant the bird pauses. Lesson 3 explains the green-cheek nip as a toddler's hand, not malice, and shows how a dramatic reaction turns it into a habit while a balsa block redirects it. Lesson 4 is the one that surprises people: the cozy fabric hut from the pet store mimics a nest cavity, triggers hormonal aggression and egg-laying, and its fibers can block the crop, so it comes out and a flat shelf goes in. Lesson 5 converts a seed-addicted conure to pellets and chop 10 percent at a time, with a gram scale and a warm mash for the stubborn ones. Lesson 6 keeps trick training to three to five minutes, Lesson 7 gives your bird a proper bath instead of the water bowl, and Lesson 8 bypasses cage defense with a target stick and neutral playstands. Lesson 9 explains the puppy-style back-sleeping that alarms new owners and how to tell it from an emergency, and Lesson 10 covers conure bleeding syndrome in young birds and the vitamin K behind it.
What you'll learn
- Loud Aratinga versus quieter Pyrrhura conures, and the zero-reaction rule that ends the scream
- Why green-cheeks nip, how dramatic reactions make it worse, and redirecting the beak to balsa
- Why fuzzy sleep tents trigger hormones and crop blockages, and the flat shelves that replace them
- Converting a seed addict 10 percent at a time with a gram scale and warm mashes
- Three-to-five-minute target and trick sessions, and proper baths instead of the water bowl
- Bypassing cage defense with a target stick, normal back-sleeping versus emergencies, and bleeding syndrome
Who this is for
People choosing between a sun conure and a green-cheek who want the honest noise comparison; owners whose conure screams the second they leave the room; and anyone whose bird guards its cage, nips fingers, or sleeps on its back and scares them.
