Bird Harness Training
Safe Outdoor Excursions and Free Flight
Fresh air for your bird without the fear of losing it. 10 lessons on choosing and sizing a real avian harness, the first touches and positive associations, luring the head through the neck loop, securing the wings and setting the slide-buckle, the first five minutes on the porch, reading wind, temperature and lawn hazards, defending against hawks and cats, what free flight actually demands, proofing recall with distance, duration and distraction, and the recovery plan if a bird gets loose.
About this course
I lost a budgie as a teenager because I did not have a harness, and this course is the one I wish someone had handed me. Lesson 1 covers the gear: why string and small collars injure birds, how an Aviator harness spreads pressure across the breastbone, and why sizing by exact weight matters. Lesson 2 begins training without ever putting the harness on, just pairing its presence with treats until the straps are boring. Lesson 3 lures the head through the neck loop with spray millet, Lesson 4 secures the wing loops and sets the buckle with the one-pinky rule, and both end in a jackpot. Lesson 5 is the first five minutes outside on a covered porch with the leash around your wrist. Lesson 6 teaches you to read wind, keep outings between 65 and 85 degrees, and scan for pesticides and cats. Lesson 7 is hawk awareness, including listening for the moment the wild songbirds go silent. Lesson 8 is an honest look at free flight and why harness training gives most owners the same joy without the risk. Lesson 9 proofs recall with distance, duration and distraction, and Lesson 10 is the recovery plan for the day a bird gets out.

Who this is for
