The Breed Selection Blueprint
Decoding Canine Groups and Finding Your Perfect Match
You can't train away genetics. 12 modules on the seven breed groups and what each was built to do, living with herding velociraptors, guardian suspicion, ball-addicted retrievers, hounds that follow their nose off a cliff, terrier fire, 'small dog syndrome', the honest lifestyle audit, the shelter 'lab mix' mystery, and what an ethical breeder actually looks like.
About this course
The border collie in the apartment, the beagle off-leash, the livestock guardian who 'doesn't like' your friends — most behaviour problems were chosen at the puppy stage, by picking a face instead of a job description. This course reads the job description. It walks the seven breed groups and what each was engineered to do for centuries, then gets specific: the herding brain that must control motion, the guardian's intentional suspicion, the sporting dog's ball addiction, the hound's nose that overrides every command, the terrier's grit and digging, and the toy breed that gets ruined by being treated like a purse. Then you audit yourself — hours, energy, square feet, noise tolerance — and learn how shelter labels, DNA tests, and ethical breeders fit in.
What you'll learn
- The genetic contract: why thousands of years of selection beat any amount of training
- The seven AKC/UKC groups (Sporting, Hound, Working, Terrier, Toy, Non-Sporting, Herding) and the drive each carries
- Herding control freaks, guardian suspicion, sporting ball addiction, hound tracking and baying, terrier vermin drive and digging
- Toy breeds: fragile frames and the human-made 'small dog syndrome'
- The lifestyle audit — time, energy, space, neighbourhood noise — matched to genetics, not fantasy
- Shelter 'lab mix' guesses, DNA testing, foster-based rescues, and ethical breeder standards (OFA clearances, temperament, take-back contracts)
